In love with Oxford

Blog-oxford-300x291

Although I spent the first four and a half years of my life in Jakarta in Indonesia, Oxford has always been (and will always be) my true home. I spent most of my childhood here, went to university at Oxford Brookes, and fairly recently got my first grad job at Oxfordshire-based CubanEight, so I have a lot to thank the county for! With love in the air at this time of year, I thought I’d write down a few reasons why I love this beautiful and unique part of the world.

#1. The beauty

“That sweet city with her dreaming spires”, there really is no place like Oxford. Biased? Perhaps. However, when the sun is shining and I’m spending an afternoon punting along the River Cherwell, past the beautiful Botanic Gardens (the oldest in Britain – see, there’s always something interesting to back up the beauty here!), this famous quote always comes to mind.

#2. The culture

I love Oxford’s diversity – the centre is always buzzing with cultural events and visitors from all over the globe so no day is ever the same and the face of the city is always changing. The city’s famous buildings remain a constant backdrop, however, exuding character and holding so much history; every alleyway leads to another example of incredible architecture. My tip when in Oxford – always look up – that’s where you’ll see the best examples of Oxford’s heritage.

#3. The restaurants and bars

Anyone who knows me knows I am a huge foodie, and one of my favourite things to do is to go out for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner! Luckily for me, Oxford is rich in culinary delights. Personal favourites of mine include Gee’s (great atmosphere and food), Gail’s (the best blueberry pancakes), The Big Society (if you like burgers, this is the place for you) and, if I’m craving Asian cuisine, Wagamama or Thaikhun are always winners with me.

If you’re familiar with Oxford, you’ll know that Jericho is the best area in town to enjoy a cocktail (or two!). My favourite haunts would have to be The Oxford Wine Café, Love Jericho and The Duke of Cambridge. Cheers!

If you’re heading to Oxford for business or pleasure, I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to share your photos with us @CubanEightPR.
