As part of the CubanEight CSR programme for 2017, we have nominated Oxford Children’s Hospital as our charity of the year. It was a team decision to choose this charity, as it is local and some of us have had personal experiences benefiting from the specialised care it offers. This year the hospital is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a major fundraising appeal to raise £2m to go towards a dedicated parents’ house so parents can stay close to their sick children.
A big focus for our fundraising this year is the forthcoming Rough Runner – which is now less than three weeks away – and contributing to that £2million target. Yesterday, myself, Emma and Alice went along to the hospital on behalf of the CubanEight team to meet their fundraising team and visit the hospital to see the difference the money makes – from funding vital equipment through to the parents’ room on each ward. It was a great motivational boost to hear personal stories and meet the staff, including play-workers who bring fun and normality to children who are staying on the wards, particularly those who are there on a long-term basis.
This visit has given us the boost we needed to spur us on to get on with our training and raise as much money as we can for the Oxford Children’s Hospital; we want to help it continue its amazing work which will benefit many more kids in years to come.
